American Planning Association

If you are an environmental planning major (or something of the sort) a great place for you to go is the American Planning Association (APA) website. I would suggest that you become a member, particularly if you are a student, because they offer a wide array planning information in real-world settings. It is much cheaper to join as a student and you recieve all the same benefits. If you are a member of the APA, you are automatically a member of the planning association of the state in which you live. In my case, that is the Pennsylvania Planning Association (PPA). On Monday, November 8th, I will be going to a conference sponsored by the PPA in Harrisburg. It will be a great experience for me as well as some friends of mine who are also going to be attending. A benefit that I recieve from being an APA/PPA member is a reduced fee for the conference. It will be very informative and I will learn a lot about the real-world in planning, which is great considering I am graduating in a month and a half. Conferences are not the only benefit you get by becoming a member of the APA. It looks great on a resume to say that you took the initiative to join such an important and well-known group. The website also offers discounted books in the field, planning news, job and career information, as well as countless other items of importance. So, if you are looking to learn about planning or want to join the association, log onto the website and learn how.
